This is obviously to load the weapon the first time you put in a new magazine, or if the weapon jams (for instance if a slug gets caught in the ejection port and you're unable to chamber a new round), this so you can manually force an eject with the pump-action/bolt/etc or remove the stuck item and manually rechamber a round afterwards. Aditionally all other semi-automatic or automatic weapons I know of also have a way to manually load or eject a shell/bullet/slug.

Which can get extremely hot, you'd likely burn your hand severely and it'd make using the shotgun functionally for an extended amount of time impossible.

The riot shotgun is obviously quite large and too heavy to hold with just one hand, and if the handgrip was not present you'd have to hold it midway up the barrel on just the pure iron. Other than that, they look completely different from each other. However, the only similarities are the drum magazines, the pistol grips and the fact that they're shotguns. You're probably thinking of the Armsel Striker here. This looks a bit like that south-African shotgun. Make sure you holster/put away your weapon, as the guards will attack you if they see you have it drawn. Going out the door at the bottom of the stairs will cause a character vital to the How Little We Know quest to become hostile, so i suggest sneaking out the way you came and avoiding the cage dancer again. Open the door across from her cage, go in, close it, then kill the thug down the stairs quickly with a silenced weapon (if he fires, the guards will come running). Sneak along the wall of the balcony overlooking the gambling floor, making sure the cage dancer doesn't see you (she is naturally hostile and will call the guards if she sees you). Using a Stealth Boy is suggested at this point. Go upstairs and through a door to the left as you overlook the lounge. Using a silenced weapon while hidden, kill the thug guarding the door next to the bar in the lounge and take his key (and anything else you like), then open the door he was guarding while no one is looking. There is a good condition one held by a thug in the Gomorrah. I already saw one for sale in Hidden Valley (BoS bunker).
